Reproduction Requirements

The Sphinx Magazine prefers that advertising materials be sent as PDF/X-1a files; however most Macintosh-compatible formats are accepted, including QuarkXPress and InDesign files. (PDF/X-1a is a subset of the Adobe Portable Document Format. It restricts the content and structure of PDF files so they can be reliably used in print production environments. Detailed information about PDF/X-1a can be found at: http://www.pdf-x.com.)

All graphics must be sent as CMYK (tif) or EPS (eps) files at a resolution of 300 dpi, with all fonts included. RGB or Pantone colors cannot be accepted without prior arrangement. Additional unit sizes, and information about inserts and BRC cards, are available upon request.

Mechanical Requirements

Trim size: 8 3/8" x 10 7/8"
Printing process: Web Offset
Binding Method: Perfect Bound

Bleed Sizes

Full page: Build full page ads to trim size (8 3/8" x 10 7/8") and extend the dimensions 1/8" beyond the page edge on all four sides.

Two-page spreads: Build two-page spread ads to trim size (16 3/4" x 10 7/8") and extend the dimensions 1/8" beyond the page edge on all four sides. A gutter safety bleed is not necessary.

Safety: Please do not create a bleed on partial-page ads. Keep all live matter not intended to trim 1/2" from the trim edges.

Gutter Safety: Allow 3/8" on each side of the gutter, 3/4" total gutter safety.

Additional production charges may be incurred if the supplied materials do not follow these specifications. Production charges are in addition to space rate.

Proofing

Color proofs should be submitted with digital files and they should be printed at 100 percent. In the absence of paper proofs or unacceptable proofs, The Sphinx is not responsible for the color reproduction.

Digital color calibrated proofs that meet SWOP standards should be used for digital ad materials. Black-and-white laser proofs are acceptable with color ads; however, The Sphinx cannot guarantee accurate color with such submissions. In cases when proofs cannot be supplied at 100 percent, please clearly indicate at what percentage the proof is printed.

Electronic Submissions

Digital submissions may be made via secure upload form or disc compatible media: CD-ROM or DVD. Unless otherwise specified, optical media will not be returned.
