This special edition Sphinx highlights the pre-Centennial Year events, including the inauguration of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. 32nd General President Darryl R. Matthews, Sr., the 99th Anniversary Convention, Fraternity CBC Reception and the historic Centennial Pilgrimage. The edition also looks at the Fraternity's efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and presents a special tribute to Johnson Publishing Company founder and Alpha Phi Alpha Brother John H. Johnson.

Also, in response to numerous requests by our readers, journalist Tony Brown's article entitled, "Why Blacks Call themselves Greeks," which first appeared in the Summer 1986 edition of The Sphinx was reprinted. The article is accompanied by a reprint of Brother Huel Perkins' popular writing, entitled "What Does It Mean To Be Greek."

The issue begins a new era in the history of The Sphinx.
